It is really beautiful to have received so much snow this season. The cross-country ski trails inland have been, so far, some good skiing. Closer to the big lake we are still awaiting a little more base. I 'm always anticipating this time of year. The woods seem solitary and energetic as the skis slide along. It is good to feel connected with an exercise to get out into the woods this time of the year. Hopefully, we keep getting the snow!!
There has been a fair amount of moose sightings around Spruce Creek and timber wolf sightings along Highway 61 early in the morning, and as always, a lot of whitetail deer sightings along the highway. Just a little snippet of some of the activities that surround us here on the North Shore.
Happy Holidays to you and yours!!

September is fast approaching, and with that comes the return to school, work, the Daily Grind... so we hope that everyone is able to get out and enjoy a last hurrah of Summer! Our family got out on the lake in the sunshine and enjoyed the beauty of sparkling blue waves against green trees, which is the most beautiful color combination. The only colors that come close in comparison to the beauty are the Fall colors. The leaves are beginning their metamorphosis to rich reds, oranges, and yellows to herald in the best time of year! We at Caribou Cabin Service love to feel the excitement in the air during this transition time as visitors and residents take the time to enjoy the beauty of the North Shore and the Boundary Waters and all the areas in between. What are your favorite aspects of the ushering in of Fall?

This summer has been the busiest yet for us with construction and remodeling. Currently we are working on an extensive landscaping project, a full remodel of a Chateau Leveaux condo unit on Lake Superior, and a residential basement remodel. This is just to name a few of the projects. We also have been roofing, replacing windows and doors, and completing various woodworking projects. Thank you for the continuous business we really appreciate it!

The weather is indicating that summer vacations to the cabin are upon us. Do you need your lawn mowed or some spring cleaning at your cabin? Maybe a new deck to enjoy the lake from, or an exterior paint job to protect your cabin from the weather. Please contact our office to set up an appointment. As always our estimates are free!

We are excited to start our second large installation project of energy efficient windows and doors. With energy cost always rising it is important to consider how to make a home more energy efficient. Older uninsulated or insufficient windows and doors can be a major source of heat loss from a home in the winter months. Also, right now is a great time to replace old windows and doors because of the possible tax credits for the homeowner. On replacement projects we like to recycle the old windows from the home. The old windows can be used for a variety of different projects.

The shell to our Timber Frame workshop is being constructed. It is exciting to see the skeleton of the frame get a covering. It will bring us a much needed workshop for furniture and cabinets fabrication.

There has been a nice size cow moose hanging out on Hwy 61 in Lutsen, near the Hall Road. While we know moose live in the woods it is a rare sighting in that area. One of the crew got a great picture we will get posted soon.

A major snow storm was forcast for the north shore Jan 23-25. It tracked the same as the end of Dec storm, where parts of the County got a foot of snow and other parts a few inches, then along Hwy 61 -pouring rain. If you need plowing or sanding - depending on where you own a home, let us know - we will take care of you. Travel safe.
